WorkPlaysVR is an interactive entertainment resource developed with WorkForce Plus, an organisation seeking to engage young people at risk of long-term-unemployment, into work.
The challenge: how can we use technology to give young people a meaningful and personal work-experience?
The solution was ambitious; an interactive live-action VR experience. 360° scenes, real locations, real people and moments of gamification that relate to actual work skills.
To our knowledge, this format had not been created before, so we set off to do it for the first time.
And we did! A 35 minute virtual reality work experience in disability-support-work. The user is guided through a virtual shift by professional support workers, who assign tasks to the user to complete. Characters speak directly to the camera giving a strong sense of immersion, and the interaction from the user is critical in order to push the experience forward.
The resource was successful in its trials throughout Victoria, and which led to more funding for another version of the resource to be produced for a Northern Territor Audience.
Shot on the GroPro Omni, developed in Unity and published on the Google Pixel / Daydream headset. Co-created with Ben McEwing, StudioBento, Paperticket Studios and Dead on Sound.
